Subject: Doing Business 2015

The World Bank released the 2015 edition of its controversial Doing Business report overnight. Prior to its release, the ITUC joined with other civil society organizations to condemn the Bank for going forward with the publication of Doing Business 2015 without correcting the "strong flaws" in the report identified by an Independent Panel review last year, as well as by an earlier assessment of the Bank's Independent Evaluation Group:

This morning, Equal Times posted a blog I wrote on the treatment of labour issues in the new Doing Business 2015:

Details of Independent Panels:
· The World Banks' Independent Evaluation Group states in its
report that the DBR has "several weaknesses in process, content and presentation that should be rectified soon if it is to maintain its credibility and usefulness".

· The Independent Panel, appointed by the Bank and chaired by former South African Finance Minister Trevor Manuel, states in its
report that the DBR has "strong flaws" and expresses concerns regarding its "reliability, validity and methodology".
