>> Food Stamp Program

The latest data from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service on monthly food stamp enrollment are now available for all states and the nation for November 2009.

>> State Fiscal Distress

Updated data on states with projected budget shortfalls for fiscal year (FY) 2011 have been added and are available from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP). Also updated are aggregate state rankings in foreclosures, unemployment, and food stamp participation based on the latest data from RealtyTrac and the USDA.

>> Life Expectancy (NEW)

New state-by-state data from the American Human Development Index on life expectancy at birth have been added for 2005.

>> Childhood Obesity Prevention and Firearms Storage Legislation

The latest information from the American Academy of Pediatrics on state laws addressing childhood obesity and the safe storage of firearms designed to protect children is now available for all states and the nation for 2009.

Medicaid & CHIP

 

>> Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP) (NEW)

The Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP), the rate at which the federal government matches each state’s Medicaid spending, is available from FY 2004 through FY 2010 and reflects information on the adjustments implemented under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Estimated savings for states resulting from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) application of the ARRA increased FMAP to so-called Medicare Part D "clawback payments" are also available.

>> Medicaid Eligibility (NEW)

New data from the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured (KCMU) and the Medicare Rights Center on income requirements for the medically needy and the aged, blind, and disabled under Medicaid have been added for all states and the nation for 2009. New information on income requirements for individuals qualifying for Medicaid coverage of nursing home services has also been added for 2009.

>> Monthly Medicaid Enrollment

Updated data from KCMU and Health Management Associates (HMA) on monthly Medicaid enrollment have been added. Updated data on monthly Medicaid enrollment for June 2009 and the percent change in enrollment from June 2008 to June 2009 are now available for all states and the nation.  Annual percent change data can also be graphed over time nationally and by state using our new trend graph reporting tool.

Medicare

 

>> Medicare Savings Programs and Dual Eligibles (NEW)

New data from the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured (KCMU) and The Medicare Rights Center on income requirements for qualified Medicare beneficiaries (QMBs), specified low-income Medicare beneficiaries (SLMBs), and qualified individuals receiving Medicaid assistance (QIs) for 2010 are now available. Also new are data on Medicaid coverage of Medicare Part D-excluded drugs for all states and the nation for 2009.

Managed Care & Health Insurance

 

>> Small Group and Individual Markets

Information from Georgetown University’s Health Policy Institute on consumer protections in the small group and individual health insurance markets is available as of January 2010 for all states. Protections include guaranteed issue, rating restrictions, and pre-existing condition exclusion rules. Updated information on the non-group coverage rules for HIPAA eligible individuals is also available.

>> Other State Protections

Also available from Georgetown’s Health Policy Institute are the latest data on expanded COBRA continuation coverage, state conversion coverage, and the definition of dependency by age as of January 2010 for all states.

HIV/AIDS

 

>> HIV Prevention (NEW)

New data from the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD) on anonymous HIV testing, state HIV prevention programs, setting types for HIV testing, and states operating HIV prevention media campaigns are now available for 2008. Also new from NASTAD is information on state HIV prevention funding for FY2007.

>> AIDS Drug Assistance Programs (ADAPs)

Updated information on AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) cost-containment strategies implemented by states as of February 2010 is also now available from NASTAD. Data on waiting lists, formulary restrictions, and client cost-sharing are available for all states and the nation.
